Did you know that both Jesus and Satan have a desire to reign over your mind? That’s because both Jesus and Satan knows that whoever controls a person’s mind, ultimately controls their thoughts, their words, their actions—and eventually, their eternal destiny.
That’s how valuable your mind is.
The good news is, if you are in relationship with Jesus and have received His free gift of Salvation, you have the mind of Christ. The unfortunate part is, you can be saved, but not live like you have the mind of Christ. In fact, Satan is banking on you not living up to that potential. More on that shortly.
The other good news is, if you are not in relationship with Jesus and have not received His free gift of Salvation, there is no better day than today! If you’d like to learn more about what it means to be a Christian, I invite you to read my article What Is A Christian. Now back to Satan and his desire to rule over your mind.
How often do you find yourself struggling with depressive thoughts: thoughts of failure, fear, shame, guilt, lust, bitterness, jealousy, or insecurity? Or how about thoughts of feeling sorry for yourself, or repeated thoughts of bad things done to you or by you in the past?
All of these thoughts, and others, fighting for time in your mind are Satan’s tactic to keep your mind from being healthy and whole. He doesn’t want you to be okay mentally and emotionally because he knows that if you are, you would become a great threat to him and his wicked agenda. I share more about this topic in What Is Satan After—I encourage you to check it out and learn more about this enemy of ours.
Satan knows that with a sound mind, you would walk in the fullness of the authority and power that Jesus died for you to have. That’s right—part of your salvation inheritance is both authority and power over the kingdom of darkness. You are meant to rule over evil, not evil ruling over you.
So what do we do? How do we combat Satan and take back control of our minds and bring it under the authority and Lordship of Jesus Christ?
We use the power of His Word.
When you have a negative thought forming in your mind, like the ones mentioned above, these thoughts may feel familiar. But just because they feel familiar does not mean you should welcome them to stay.
Familiarity does not equal good, healthy, or right.
When you get one of these thoughts, interrupt it as soon as you can, and begin thinking something true from the Word of God—even better, speak it out loud!
Here are some examples:
- Common Thought: I never have enough money. I’m always going to be in need.
- Truth Based on His Word: God is faithful and He will supply all of my needs (1 Corinthians 1:9 & Philippians 4:19).
- Common Thought: I will always be alone, no one wants me.
- Truth Based on His Word: God loves me with an everlasting love. He will never leave me nor forsake me (Jeremiah 31:3 & Deuteronomy 31:8).
- Common Thought: I don’t know what to do. I’m so confused.
- Truth Based on His Word: I have the mind of Christ, therefore I have clarity and wisdom (1 Corinthians 2:16).
- Common Thought: I’m so afraid. I don’t know what’s coming next.
- Truth Based on His Word: God has not given me a spirit of fear. He has given me a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
These are just a few examples, of how you take the Word of God and combat against the lies of Satan.
God’s Word is truth and life. Therefore we speak His Word by faith even when:
- It doesn’t make sense to our mind.
- It feels impossible.
- Our circumstances are going in the opposite direction.
- Other people think we’re crazy for doing it God’s way.
- It’s uncomfortable.
- It costs us something.
The only way you will ever experience His promises and goodness in your life is if you start believing His word by faith and stand firm on it no matter how you feel or what you think.
If at anytime your thoughts differ from God’s Words, He doesn’t need to change—you need to change! You need to change your thinking to align with His.
God’s Word is always the truth and it is always right!
Start using His Word today to retrain your mind how to think and change your life for the better.
God’s Word always leads to truth, life, light, peace, joy, and power. If your thoughts are leading to negativity, upset, anger, defeat, bitterness, confusion, or hopelessness—they are coming from Satan, not God.
Be mindful of your thoughts today and start interrupting the bad thoughts with the Truth.
God’s Word will never fail you or disappoint you. You can put your faith in it today!
